Okay, sorry for posting late, but here's my top five after this weekend's action:
1. Alabama - no questions asked
2. Oregon - no questions about this, either
3. FSU - yes, as much as I hate to admit it (more on that below)
4. South Carolina
5. Georgia
* 6 - Yes, LSU is out my top five (more on that below, too)
Re: FSU. Although I don't think a win over South Florida is necessarily that big, it's not a layup game. South Florida has a track record of upending good teams. Moreover, they played the game as it needed to be played. They were in control the whole time. I'm actually more impressed with their win over SoFla than I was with their effort against Clemson, as strange as that might sound - especially since FSU was coming off of a big win. Even if I'm not entirely convinced that they have the talent to win the big one just yet, they have the maturity. They're playing at the right level. So, as much as I hate to admit to ncopus, I think his Noles are on the up and up.
Re: LSU. Look, their defense is still there. I love the LSU defense. But as great as they are, I think the offensive struggles are beginning to wear psychologically on the entire team. Mettenberger's a huge problem right now. He may have the talent, but his head just isn't there, and I can't be the only one who notices that he telegraphs his passes big time. Against Auburn and Towson, those telegraphed passes are nothing more than broken up passes that amount to an ugly pass completion percentage. Against the better secondaries of the SEC? Those are going to be pick-6's or at least great field position for the other teams. I think LSU's in real trouble right now. Florida's their last chance to get it right, but don't be surprised if Florida beats the Tigers.

Reason: Whoops, messed up my own poll - just write it in, then.
Love ND so gotta add them in there.Plus I think they are pretty damn close to top 5.LSU is the team that has no business in top 10.
I don't know if I agree with ND being in the top five, but they might be in the top ten. I don't know about LSU not being in the top, but they're definitely not in the top five. I will wait until the Florida game is over before writing off the Tigers. Their defense is still there. Mettenberger did show some signs of life late in the game, but it was too late and against questionable competition for his 7-quarters of struggles to be overlooked. It's really odd, because I thought the Tigers looked reasonably good against Washington - not perfect, but okay. And then the Auburn game happened. It just looked like Mett was hitting a wall.
Like I say, the Florida game will tell us a lot about LSU and Florida. I would not be surprised if Florida wins that game, but LSU could be waiting to unleash a better, more focused effort. I sometimes sensed they may have just needed some adrenaline.

Eh I'm going to hold off putting my Irish in the top 5 for a few more weeks. We still have to play Miami this weekend, and we still have Stanford, Oklahoma, and USCw on the schedule so we have plenty of big games left to prove ourselves worth of the top 5. I think we're fine right where we are, #9.
As for my top 5 it goes:
-Alabama
-Oregon
-FSU
-LSU
-Georgia
I'm not sold on FSU, LSU, or Georgia and I don't think any of them are NC contenders. Although FSU and Georgia have pretty easy schedules so that will help them. Both have to play Florida and Georgia has to play USCe but other than that their schedules are pretty light.
