Personally, I've never understood this "modern era" stuff. If you're going to go back to 1945, you may as well consider the whole of college football history. I mean seriously, that's 25 years before most schools even started letting black students compete! I guess this modern era stuff is a way for the Okies, who were getting whipped by Texas for four decades before they finally hired Bud, to feel better, LOL.
