Not a State fan but to win the Rose Bowl against Stanford is nothing to scoff at. I am glad there's at least one team in Michigan that is not a major disappointment.

Not a Spartans fan, but they had a great year. Too bad they can't play for the national championship discussion this year, because beating Stanford in the Rose Bowl is a big-time win. They've proven they're as competitive as any team in the nation. Great, great coaching staff on that team. It's remarkable what he's been able to do, and the only problem that presents is that now he's going to be high on the list of teams that don't currently have a head coach (i.e. Texas). In fact, if memory serves me correct, there was once another Michigan St. coach who had compiled a comparatively more modest track record but one that was impressive nevertheless, who then sought greener pastures down south. I kinda hope history doesn't repeat itself, though, because I think it would be a refreshing change to have Mich. St. in the discussion of big time BIG10 programs and not just talking about Ohio St, Michigan, and Penn St all the time.

I'm a Michigan State fan since I didn't specify that earlier. I guess there had just been so many years of high hopes that were ultimately dashed, near-misses, and rough times. It had been 26 years, and I'm not that old, so I was too young to really understand when they won the Rose Bowl in 1988.
