I don't buy the bs that a playoff diminishes the regular season. If anything, it makes it matter more. A team that has lost 1, or 2 games knows their chances of reaching the title game are pretty much gone. Knowing there's a playoff will make the games matter that much more.
8 teams is a perfect number, imo.
I would say a minimum of eight. 4 is better than the BCS but too small. Ideally 16.
Generally the more the better for playoffs. The problem is this is college football. It takes a toll on the players. They cant study or rest, and can get them injured ruining pro aspects. Finally it can be expensive for teams. That is the problem with college playoffs. A 32 playoff would be AWESOME. Hell even a 64 for all conferences would be, sure some junk schools would get in but they would get knocked out and schools that normally dont play could play each other. However, for the reasons I mentioned this couldnt happen with college football since it is too much for the athletes and schools.
Actually, if the BCS did not pretty much have a "one and done" philosophy, you might see some excellent non-conference match-ups as opposed the the usual SEC vs Sunbelt/FCS matchups.
A 16 team playoff still represents less than 15% of the FBS schools participating.
I don't know if you're a PAC fan or not, but I get so tired of hearing the West Coast AM radio jocks whine about how soft the SEC schedule is. Nobody from SEC territory's complaining about FSU playing Idaho, or Oregon playing Nicholls State, or Ohio St. playing Florida A&M, a team so bad that almost everyone knows they're only playing for the money they'll get for showing up. None of the top-seeded teams can claim high ground. The only reason the rest of the country piles on the SEC is because they're getting bitter about losing to the SEC in the BCS title game every year.
If all teams win that should, the BCS bowls will look like this... What a fitting end to the BCS. FSU kicked the BCS era off and will now finish the BCS era (when they beat Duke this weekend).

Rose Bowl: Stanford vs Mich St
Orange Bowl: Clemson vs Alabama
Sugar Bowl: Auburn vs UCF Fiesta Bowl: OK State vs Northern Illinois
Well so much for that. And so much for Lynch's Heisman Trophy hopes.
Ok State did something I hate on the final series...only rushed 3. Keep pressure on QB to prevent him from making plays (and getting iffy interference calls).

I think there should be a rule where every team is required to play at least 5 true road games. It crazy when you see teams playing 12 games and 8 of them are at home.
