College football is such a joke. Four weeks into the season and the top ranked powerhouses are still playing county community colleges. Seven of the ranked teams ran up 50+ points yesterday, one scored 77 in three periods and could have easily gone over 100. One team is averaging 70 points a game for the whole season so far and reached that yesterday in the third quarter.. A second string QB threw 6 touchdown passes in the first half alone. This is just stupid, pointless scheduling. One third of the way through the season, and 27 of the top 100 teams are still undefeated. The BCS teams basically play about 8 games against real opponents. If it weren't for the mercy of the thing, the Georgia Tech record of a 222-0 win over Cumberland would be in jeopardy.

Well the only reason Ohio State scheduled FCS opponent Florida A&M was that back in 2012, Vanderbilt backed out of a deal to play a game this week in Columbus. The Buckeyes had to schedule somebody and no FBS teams were interested/available on such short notice.
It wasn't their wish at all to schedule a creampuff, but a win is a win and the FCS program they played got a nice big payday out of it. It might be the largest single infusion of cash that FCS program will see in this decade.
I watched the CSU Rams play Alabama last night and the game was pretty entertaining until midway through the 4th quarter.
CSU got beat pretty bad on the scoreboard but at one point in the 4th quarter, they were down 17-6 and were driving. Alabama didn't convert a third down until about 2:50 left in the 4th quarter.
Do I fault Bama for scheduling the Rams? No. The Rams new head coach was their offensive coordinator. Plus it gave the Rams a chance to play up.

I agree, some of these games were embarrassing. Hopefully with this new playoff system, they will penalize these teams that have cup cake non conference schedules. Maybe it will encourage teams to schedule tougher quality opponents. We'll see better early non conference match ups.

Agreed. CSU came into that game 38.5 point underdogs and their defense went above and beyond to keep them in the game through 3.5 quarters. It's too bad their offense has been so pathetic this year. Hopefully Jim McElwain and his staff can use last night's game to recruit some offensive firepower.

This is what happens when you have teams scared to schedule legitimate non-conference teams because they know a loss will ruin their chances to play for the national title and they want to play as few true road games as possible. If I were these weak schools, I would demand higher payments for taking the beatings.
Nebraska blew out South Dakota State using two back up QBs. Seems the seat got a little cooler for Bo Pelini. He won't be off the hot seat until they stop being obliterated in the big games.

It's a down year for the Big Ten. Given how Michigan has looked, the Huskers could sneak into the championship game.

That is exactly the problem.
Non-conference games dont matter that much for BCS contender schools, and a loss carries much more penalty than a win will help a good school.
However, for schools that arent BCS contenders it actually helps to play better teams because if you are leading a cupcake conference that isnt one of the main conferences you wont be taken seriously unless you beat a real team that could be a BCS contender, and in this case a win means a lot while a loss wont really hurt the school.
So really what you have is the best programs playing cupcake teams during non-conference games, and you have schools that are still contenders but not that good scheduling against good teams to show they can beat good programs and not only cupcakes.
To be fair though college football is not supposed to be a pre-NFL, although it is becoming one.
The reason for "creampuff games" is obvious -- and financial. The alumni of the powerhuse schoools head back to Lincoln, or Ann Arbor, or Happy Valley, and bring a ton of disposable dollars along with them, which in turn bolsters the economy of college-centered communities.
It hurts no one, and improves the daily lives of many. Who invited a buch of self-appointed aesthetes to sit in judgement?
