Wow. As someone who lives in the state of Alabama, I'm going to buy a lot of popcorn and a catheter. That way, if it does happen, I don't have to miss a moment of the meltdown on message boards. The number of wife beatings and suicides will be off the chart.

Well as an Alabama fan I believe it is just a rehash of the same story from earlier.

I do not think Saban will leave Alabama for Texas.

Why would ANYBODY leave the most perfect situration in any sport in the USA? Before this is over Hes going to have to buy a whole new shelves to hold all that Crystal. Hope Oregon can slip ONE in there while he destroys the rest of the College football world for years to come.

Dennis Franchione and Mike DuBose might beg to differ. It's perfect if you do almost nothing but win. In Texas, it doesn't take as much winning to exceed expectations.

As alluring as Alabama football country can be, Texas has a pretty nice little recruiting ground of its own and one hell of a budget to boot. It's not as if he'd be leaving the South entirely -- he'd still get some of those guys from Flora-Bama-Georgia, and he would crush Les Miles' and LSU by raiding and pillaging high schools in Louisiana. The damage to LSU's program would be particularly noteworthy. LSU would be picking up the phone and begging Urban Meyer to come down south again.

He's "too damn old to start over."

He makes six mill a year in Alabama which is like 12 million anywhere else AND on top of that his money is practically no good anywhere in the state except Lee county.

He answers maybe to 1 or 2 people at his job versus probably a dozen or more then he would at Texas.

There is no way he walks away from Bama. He has a developed winning program and is playing in the coveted SEC. Why would he want to leave for Texas? There isn't a damn real reason.

Alabama could become a victim of its own success. Saban has absolutely owned college football while at Alabama, and before that he took an LSU team that was Alabama's and Florida's perennial b*tch and transformed them into a national powerhouse. Dare I say, he might actually be getting a little bored with winning in the SEC?

Maybe he wants to see how his brand of football would work in another conference. He knows winning in the Big 10's going to be doable but really hard -- he's been there and done that with Michigan State already. I could possibly see him going out to the PAC to coach USC, but Texas has the biggest revenue stream and he would still be on very fertile and familiar recruiting grounds. He'd have to get to know the DFW a bit better and contend with Stoops, but that's a piece of cake with his pedigree. It would be Stoops on the outside looking in at recruiting time if Saban takes over in Austin.

That would probably change right quick. He'd make it a condition of his employment, and I bet the Longhorns would make it happen. The hard part would be letting Mack Brown go. I know the guy's on the bubble, but the guy has been the most successful Texas coach over the past 40 years. You can't just ignore that history.
