Bozo the Saban. You go to overtime. You know your kicker is going to leave it short and you know you don't have anyone to stop a return if Auburn catches it.

Saban should have taken the FG earlier as well. A 30 yard field goal but instead he goes for it.

Saban has done remarkable the last few years so its hard to criticize him. But he really had his bum out the window with a couple of those decisions.

He did the right thing. With so little time usually you either make the field goal and win or miss and go into overtime. What happened was a super rare occurance. Even if it goes short and the other team gets it how often do they return it for a TD?

it was more likely that Auburn would return it than a freshman kicker was going to make a 57 yard FG. If the freshman kicker was so good then why wasn't he starting? Their starting kicker was hopeless.

In the end I am more concerned we end up with a Ohio State versus Florida State game that ends up like when Alabama played them.We may have already seen best games of the year. So often SEC games are better than BCS championship game now days. Not just the field goal but the game not ending on the out of bounds call by official. Not to take anything from Auburn as their record shows they are always tough.

Auburn validated their place at #2 for the last 5 weeks in Harrier's top 25.

Now they are #1.

Nick Saban was playing for the win, which wasnt a bad call because Bama couldnt stop the Auburn rushing attack. Who was to say that they could stop Auburn in overtime?. Losing this game falls on our kicking game which was pathetic at best.

No not really. Seriously how often have you seen someone return a field goal for a 100 yard TD? More than a kicker making a longshot field goal? That wasnt a once a year finish, that was a once a decade for the history books kinda play. A 57 yard field goal isnt all that uncommon what happened tonight was super rare. In retrospect it was a mistake because of what happened, but nobody would have expected that with 1 second left.

Still kudos to Auburn. That was probably the best last second victory I have ever seen.

With the problems Alabama had in the kicking game against Auburn, there was a decent chance the FG attempt gets blocked. If that happens, there was a chance the blocked kick gets returned for a touchdown.

Here's the real way to look at that final play from Alabama's point of view - do you have a better chance of completing a Hail Mary pass from the Auburn 40 yard line, or do you have a better chance of making a 57 yard FG (a FG length even NFL kickers make less than half the time) with your backup, freshman kicker who has attempted two field goals all season (and has a career long of 20 yards) AND you've had problems in the kicking game all night, including a blocked kick on your last FG attempt? With the problems Alabama was having in its kicking game, I think the Hail Mary pass has a better chance of being successful. More importantly, a Hail Mary pass has a lower chance of something disastrous happening for Alabama - Auburn probably rushes only 3 or 4 guys, and the odds of a sack, fumble, and return for a touchdown in that situation, or having the Hail Mary pass intercepted and returned for a touchdown, are very, very low, definitely much lower IMO than a blocked FG on a very long attempt or a missed FG returned for a touchdown. If you're Alabama, you want to eliminate the disastrous play scenario from consideration and go to overtime if you can't complete (what would have been in either the Hail Mary or FG attempt scenario) a very low percentage play to win the game.
