You're assuming Podunk Tech actually had a kicker who could've made that 3.

Personally, just to eliminate all the complaining, they ought to make it so that only conference champions can play for the title. I get that some conferences are loaded, but that's true in any sport with conferences.

Eh... no. Not really.

The system worked for only for a select handful schools that were favored by the media and conference presidents. A 4 team playoff is just a start, but it really should have started with 8. You know it, I know, every person with a brain knows it. They did it this way because they knew it would make people question a playoff system and, well, here we are...

It will expand from 4, too much money involved, 6-8 maybe 10 in the future.

I think he was referring to the fact that the selection of the final participants was more objective, and I would agree with that. A lot of people complained about the BCS, and I would agree that the biggest gripes were the fact that only two teams could earn a spot in the title game. But the computerized rankings, while not perfect, took a lot of objective factors into consideration and ranked them. We all know that an 11-0 Conference USA team doesn't merit the same consideration as a 10-1 SEC, PAC12, or Big12 school. The BCS addressed that.

The problem came in comparing a 1-loss SEC team against a 1-loss Big 12 or PAC 12 school, but even under the old system, a loss to a #1 LSU team wasn't the same as a loss to Iowa State, and it got that part right, no matter how much people wanted to complain about two schools from the same conference being in the title game. The Ok State proponents were making *subjective* argument when they argued that two teams from the same conference shouldn't be in a title game - there was no rule that ever said this had to be the case. In most sports, a wild card team can still win a championship - it happens many times, in fact.

The BCS ranking system was objective, and for that reason, the new Playoff is actually a step in the wrong direction, despite the fact that it made the right move in opening up the field to more teams. I would agree with you that it should be open to 8 teams.

Agreed. This is just the first step. The NCAA might be a little wary of getting too deep into the NFL playoff season, but i think that's not going to be an issue. It's just more football; the two leagues/levels can play off of each other, I think.

I could see 8, but more then that is just too many. Injuries, fatigue and time. I don't want to see a bunch of 2 and 3 loss teams sneaking in. Just the undefeateds and the 5-6 best 1 loss teams.

8 team playoff.

- 5 spots go to the Power 5 conf champs. Win your conference and you're in.
- 3 wild cards. Either by the old BCS rankings or by committee. (Alternative: highest ranked mid-major plus two wild-cards.)
- BCS rankings or committee handles seeding the 8 teams.

Done.

Totally agree! The only question is who plays who??? Having #1 play #4 is stupid. Regarding the decisions coming from the "committee," the PlayOff committee seems more like a PAYOff committee--at least that's the way it looks to me......just saying'.....

Disclaimer: NOLES' fan here! Undefeated is undefeated and a win is a win. So when did teams have to start playing "pretty?!?!" Ridiculous.....
