I am huge sports fan. NFL, NBA, MLB and even more so for college football and basketball. I long for the day when team sports are again all over my TV.

I am watching the NBA and MLB try to restart. It seems pretty simple, play in facilities closed off from the outside world without fans. Seems like a good plan as long as they can keep everyone from sneaking out from time to time. Yet the date for starting keeps getting pushed farther out. Now its July 31st. And these players have a huge financial incentive to get back to work.

So on to college football. What is going to happen? You can't close off what are suppose to be college students for a season. So what happens when a player or staff tests positive? The whole team goes into quarantine for 2 weeks as well as their most recent opponent? Referees also? Then both teams have to postpone their next two games. And this sort of scenario will play out over and over. Teams have to travel, stay in hotels, etc. The likelihood of everyone doing the right thing all the time and then being lucky is not going to happen, sorry.

Or are then going to just quarantine the one player and keep playing? They cannot do that and others may not want to play them and refuse. Look at the NBA. One player got it and the league shut down. At the time I thought it was an over reaction but since then I get it. There was no way they could keep the season going as it was.

30 members of the UCLA football team singed a statement today demanding certain safeguards be in place. I could see this spreading all around the college football world.

I want college sports to come back this year. But I don't see any way of that happening. Am I missing something? I say zero percent. Only way it would have happened is if covid-19 cases in the US were dropping to near zero. Instead the numbers are trending up overall and way up in many states.

The players that are legit NFL prospects could audition for the NFL. Plus many are sure bets due to how they have played the past seasons. What I am saying if this season or perhaps next does not happen the process of making it to the NFL could continue.

Professional sports will happen. Even if its shortened seasons the major sports can play this year. But I do not see any way of team college sports like football and basketball to happen. Unless the virus quickly goes away. And that is looking increasingly unlikely.

If I am missing something obvious, please opine.

20%. And if college football programs tried to move ahead with a season, it would likely be a disaster.

What's more, doing so could prove fatal to the college game. Football is already incredibly expensive and a money loser for most universities. It's already considered a highly exploitative sport with its huge demands of time, energy, and non-existent compensation. Can you imagine the outcry that would break out should coronavirus break out among players in the middle of the season, especially is some coach decided to cut a few corners in terms of testing and isolation (Don't try to deny that wouldn't happen. It's practically a certainty)? Football is already a brutal game. Ladle on top of it unnecessarily exposing kids to a virus, and the criticisms get a lot worse.

Isolating kids would prove next to impossible, given the sheer size of the teams and the support crews. And even if you did that, all it would do is expose that entire college football student-athlete model as a sham. For the players would not go to class, not interact with the student body at all, but rather wear a groove between the dorm, the cafeteria, and the practice field.

Best to simply not have the season. Let non-contact sports such as baseball and soccer carry the load.

Yeah, I know it's not a popular opinion. And, trust me, I want to see the games played as much as anyone else. But it's the right thing to do for the sake of the sport.

Texas just went back into a stricter lockdown because they are adding about 6,000 new cases per day. Florida is on deck for the same. If there's a college football season, it will, in all likelihood, be without fans.

IMNSHO, if this pandemic causes a lot of those lightly-attended, bottom-of-the-barrel bowl games (like the moronic Famous Idaho Potato Bowl) to go belly up, I wouldn't mind a bit. There are about 15-20 of them that could and should disappear.

I dont see how it can happen. You already have several teams with players already contracting the virus. It'll only get worse when they start practicing and when school is in session.

I have said this since about a month into the pandemic; there will be no going back to normal until there is a vaccine. Anytime there are people crowded, this virus will spread. Especially given the close contact of football players touching each other, sweating on each other, spit and saliva being exchanged during battle. There will be cases popping up left and right, and it will spread like wildfire through teams.

This season will not happen, and everyday life as we know it, will not go back to normal until sometime next year when a vaccine is introduced. Dr. Fauci has even indicated that it may not be a perfect vaccine, but anything (as long as it is safe) will help. College football's 2020-2021 season will not be happening.

You also bring up good points that in my mind, just make it easier not to have a season. You are definitely going to have tons of players test positive, but then what do they do to the teammates, because several of them would have definitely been "exposed" to some degree. What happens when 1 OL or DL tests positive. The rest of the linemen would also be exposed, so do you then play with flag football rules for 2 weeks, where there are no lines??? Then someone else tests positive and the cycle starts again.

Or in basketball with 12 men rosters. If one person tests positive, very likely that several others were "exposed" and you could be down to 2 players.

Dealing with these scenarios for multiple teams throughout the season will cause chaos. When they think it through, they will see that it will not work out.

They also can be infected by their classmates.

Definitely possible. Although back when I went to college (D1 school), most football players lived together, took classes together (and sat together), worked out together, ate together, etc. They didn't interact a whole lot with "other classmates." That doesn't mean it's not a possibility. They could go to a party, library (although in my school you didn't frequently see them there), etc with general classmates and get infected, but most cases have spread originaiting from close contacts, so I would think the greatest risk would be from other football players.

A. I dont see a vacine being available soon, maybe never. Virus's mutate and change. Notice the is still no AID's vacine.

B. As long as people are convinced that generally healthy adults and children believe they are seriously threatened by this disease, I dont see sports returning big time. School either.

Possibly but there was no vaccine for Spanish Flu. Sports continued and things did go back to normal in the summer of '19.
