If Americans are so lazy, why do we consistently top the medal table at the Olympics?

Soccer is a lot like corporate life; lots of tedium and little scoring. Hence, not many opportunities for individual recognition. Also, unlike baseball and American (tackle) football, opportunities to make up for a deficit score in a relatively short time are rare. The subtleties of the game revolve around elaborate defenses, which are difficult for a lot of people conditioned toward a short span of attention to recognize or appreciate.

With a couple of exceptions here and there, most of the world is conditioned to accept a lifestyle with limited social mobility. The United States, Canada and Australia were founded by, and based upon the values of people with a somewhat more rebellious attitude toward authority, and I suspect this carries over in our tastes regarding sport.

No.

Just what the world needs -- another ignorant soccer snob. Since you posted this in the college football forum... if you think football is a "lazy" sport, just try playing it at the collegiate level. I doubt you'd make it through a single practice session or a single down series out on the field.

I'd like to see the OP walk up to a college football player and say that he's out of shape, especially this time of year.

Your title is very different from your comments which followed.

Regarding your title, the answer has to be a resounding NO. Soccer is NOT more important than football, and I happen to appreciate soccer. Americans are too deeply entrenched in football, baseball, basketball and hockey when it comes to sports.

Soccer had never been a very serious consideration -- until only recently. If anything, soccer is just barely a bleep on the radar, and is very slowly... very slowly... catching on. Maybe.

Your other comments are rather offensive, and is not going to allow for good conversation. You're basically angering people who play and watch American football, and who are going to dismiss you as a troublemaker.
