1st Poll (Ohio, teams, Big 12, Ten)

OK since it is now officially November, I think we've seen enough to release a poll.

The official "Selection Committee Poll" comes out Tuesday.

I created my own based on a combination of things.

I ranked them 1st strictly by Win %. Then I ranked the top 33 by "best win" (with a bonus for having additional quality wins), and then "best loss(es)". I then added a SOS factor, and finally added a very lightly weighted SOS of their remaining games.

7) Notre Dame
8) Oklahoma St.
9) TCU
10) Alabama
11) Florida
12) Utah
13) Baylor

I don't need to see any reasoning to say I like it because you're not going by the AP or coaches polls which the committee does.

Not bad, except that whichever FOUR we believe will be there... most likely won't!

Iowa might sneak in at #4, but.. I think they probably wind up being #5.. I agree with you on #1 and #2.. They MIGHT give Clemson #1, but shouldn't. LSU has more wins over ranked teams, so they should be #1 without question. Clemson has had dominating wins, but the only game against a ranked team was Notre Dame.

Michigan State #3, I can buy.. Notre Dame could get #4 ahead of Iowa. Iowa will (should) be in if they win out, because that will kick either Michigan State or Ohio State out.

I'm not putting Baylor or TCU in unless they beat a ranked team

TCU will play 6 road games this year, including a non-conference road game. You don't see a lot of the top tier teams playing 6 true road games; a lot of them play 4. I don't consider these neutral games at the start of the season as true road games. Teams should be required to play 5 true road games every year.


As of right now I have

2. TCU
3. Clemson
4. Stanford

These committee polls are inherently doomed because Ohio State, Michigan State and Iowa, 2 of those 3 are guaranteed to have 1 loss because OSU and MSU see each other in a few weeks and assuming Iowa is goes undefeated in the regular season they'll see either of those two in the Big Ten title game. Soooo of those 3 2 ain't making it in the final discussion. Just saying.

Same thing applies to the Big 12. Oklahoma State, Baylor and TCU are all undefeated and all have yet to play each other. Again same scenario. Two of those 3 ain't gonna be in the final discussion.

IF FSU takes down Clemson AND Bama takes down LSU then it gets real interesting.

Notre Dame takes down Stanford in the final week and UCLA takes down Utah and well we're gonna have a really fun debate here.



My prayer is that Houston and Toledo end up both undefeated with every school in the power 5 having 2 losses and the committee's hand is forced so they have to put both in :-)

you did NOT adhere to your own standards. you said your first criteria was STRICTLY win %. Why is Toledo ranked behind teams with 1 loss? just curious why you went against your own "rules"?

What I meant was I ranked them all by win %. Then I ranked the top 33 (which were all the unbeaten teams + every Power 5 conference team with 2 losses or less) by "best win(s)" and then again by "best loss(es)". Finally I added the 2 SOS components.

I added each teams position in the 5 different rankings, which is what is reflected in the top 25 posted in the OP.

Just for example Northwestern's 8 opponents this season have a combined .625 winning % which was #1, while Houston's 8 opponents have a combined winning % of .286 was was 33rd.
