The 4 team playoffs proved to be a step in the right direction immediately.
If we were still under the BCS format the NCG would have been Florida St. vs Alabama and both of those teams lost in the opening round.
While it definitely proved to be a better system, there were actually 6 teams that were deserving of a spot.
Baylor and TCU were clearly two teams that should have had an opportunity.
Who would have been the final two teams to round out the field of 8? Who cares.
I don't care if a couple or three less-than-deserving teams gets in and others clamor that it should have been them. But what I don't want to see is teams like TCU and Baylor getting left out.
SO, how long before they actually get it right and go to 8?
The first Playoff Committee Poll was released last night, and already we see at least a perception of Homerism.
People are up in arms about Bama being in, but either they lose Saturday and are out, or they beat LSU and prove they deserve to be there. No big deal IMO, but I certainly can understand the frustration of some.
ND at 5 basically says "you guys are in after the LSU/Bama game is over".
So once again I want to propose the 8 team system that can eliminate all biases whatsoever.
My format eliminates the need for any human voting biases.
Simply take the 5 conference champs of the Power 5 conferences, and three at large bids.
The at-large bids are decided as follows:
1) Any unbeaten conference champ from the mid-majors will receive an automatic bid.
2) All teams who have an equal number or less losses than any of the auto-bid teams are ranked by a simple SOS formula to fill out the remaining spots.
Seed the top 5 using the same SOS formula, and add the last three accordingly.
Done.
Easy and eliminates any appearance of bias.
Gives the smaller schools a shot.
Forces teams to schedule tougher opponents.
the more teams you involve the greater the chance that the champion will simply be the team that plays best at the end of the year ..champion for the year should also be champion of the year .. don't want NCAA basketball all over again ..

How long it will take is equal to length of time the NCAA needs to figure out the best way to ensure they balance the need to squeeze every dollar out of it while making it sound like they are pretending to care about the athletes. This involves hiring the right PR firm and sorting out which high ranking university/conference/network officials get what cut of the profits. These things do not happen overnight.

How is that any different than the NFL or any other sport.
Comparing an 8 team format to a 66 team format is ridiculous.
No other sport EVER finishes the season with multiple unbeaten teams.
It is inexcusable for the NCAA football to allow it.
Bama and LSU play this weekend. Same for Clemson and FSU. The Big 12 contenders all play each other in November, when Ohio State also has its toughest games. ND has to play Stanford. There's no need for an eight team playoff because that's what November really is...

Exactly. A lot of the games would potentially be duplicates. No need for that when the cream usually rises to the top. Football is too brutal to add too many more games, especially for students who may or may not have a professional career ahead of them.

I can only find one time when the season ended with more than two unbeaten teams .. 40 years ago ... you expand to 8 teams you gunna have a two loss champion ...
Hopefully soon. However, 8 is enough. Take the conference winners of the Power 5 conferences, the best team from the other conferences, and 2 at-large teams.

Most ridiculous thing Ive read today. Lets not make it sooo easy for these teams. Lets make them beat the best teams from around the country just not the sec. Upsets make college sports great, if your team isnt in the tourney then you root for the underdog.
