North Carolina and NC State are North Carolina and NC State respectively. They are not at the level of Clemson.

Clemson and Florida State dominate the Atlantic Coast Conference in football. Florida State has been in the spotlight more often.

good for them, but then that was 34 years ago now wasnt it? how often has clemson been in the top 25 at the end of the season? just because a team wins a championship one year, does not mean they are automatically a top tier team.

Emphasis on Florida State, then Va Tech. Theres a reason why the emphasis has been on Florida State. Pure domination.

Yep, after the 1989 season our administration decided to gut the football program. To be fair, that wasn't their intent but it was the result of their decision to buy out Danny Ford's contract and replace him with Ken Hatfield. We had just completed a two game series with FSU - they beat us on the famous puntrooskie play in Clemson in the first game, and we went to Tallahassee the next year and destroyed them. In 1990, they agreed to join the ACC and we were excited about having a new competitive rival (we were both consistent top ten teams at that time). The 90's were a difficult time for us, with FSU stepping into the lead ACC dog position that we had formerly occupied while we wandered in the wilderness. Things got a little better when Tommy Bowden took the program over, but we were wildly inconsistent (the origin of the "Clemsoning" term). We would chalk up some victories over FSU, but not enough. Dabo's tenure as head coach and the consistency he's established in the past several seasons has returned us to being a perennial top ten team. It's been a long road, but this year's team is no flash in the pan (go research our recruiting classes). Regardless of the Orange Bowl outcome, we're going to be around for a while during this cycle of our program...

Oh yeah, and we're 38-8-1 over VA Tech - That's domination!

What has Oklahoma done in 15 years since winning their seventh national championship? Many other teams have won multiple national championships since. Oklahoma is not one of them.
