With the proliferation of corporate naming sponsorships for bowl games, the primary moniker for the events have been lost in a wave of shameless commercial promotion. This bowl season is no different. What are some amusing, odd, or downright bad bowl games names that have caught your eye? They can be from any year, past or present.

I will start by nominating this years Motel 6 Cactus Bowl. Yes, watching West Virginia play Arizona State is really going to make me want to stay at a cheap lodging next to a Denny's and a freeway onramp on the edge of some town no one has ever heard of the next time I travel. Do you suppose that anyone will be left by the end of the game to leave the light on for?

The Beef O'Brady's Bowl is a pretty bad bowl name. So was the Poulan Weed Eater Independence Bowl.

In the late 40s and early 50s, there was a Salad Bowl played in Phoenix. That name stunk, too.

Speaking of stinky bowl game names...how about the Dr. Scholl's Odor Eater Bowl?

OK...I made that last one up. But you gotta admit...it does stink pretty bad.

That semifinal played in Arlington should have been called the Dr. Scholl's Odor Eater Cotton Bowl.

Cactus Bowl is turning out to a good show and since it is really a home game for the Sun Devils people will stick around no matter what!

Oh, there were some bad ones even before sponsorship.. Though, I think this year the Battlefrog Fiesta Bowl gets my vote.

Aluminum Bowl - Held one time in 1956 in Little Rock

Bean Bowl.. 1949 and 1950 in Nebraska

Cigar Bowl in Tampa from 1947 to 1954

Mercy Bowl.. Played in 1961 and 1971 in LA.. Both times benefiting families of people killed in plane crashes

Ice Bowl.. Between 1948 and 1952 whose sole purpose was basically to have a bowl game for the University of Alaska

Gotham Bowl.. 1961 and 1962 in NYC

Oil Bowl at Rice Stadium from 1944-1947

Pecan Bowl.. 1964-1970 in Texas

Poultry Bowl in 73 and 74

Poi Bowl in Hawaii that became the Pineapple Bowl 1936-52

Refrigerator Bowl, 1948-1956 in Indiana

Vulcan Bowl.. 1942 to 52 in Birmingham

All bowls that are domain names are automatically a high level of fail. Insight.com Bowl, Galleryfurniture.com Bowl, Rotten.com Bowl, whatever. A lot of the others make the Famous Idaho Potato Bowl look fairly reasonable.

Labonte, I actually think this was a cool Bowl name, with a cool history.. The game was hosted by local Shriners, as a fundraiser.

Anyone remember, the Motor City Bowl was renamed The Little Caesars Pizza Bowl for it's last few years

Longtime residents down in Tucson think the name is funny because there's a Cactus Bowl bowling alley which has been there forever!

The Motel 6 affiliation is seriously funny and weird as well!
