Washington doesn't deserve to be in the playoffs!!!

They faced NOBODY challening!!

And dude clemson almost beat bama last year did you forget?

Clemson also beat ohio state in 2014 bowl game!

clemson is ranked #2 for a reason!

penn state or michigan or heck oklahoma should be in the #4 stop!

not lil ol washington who cant beat usc!!

Oklahoma doesn't lay an egg vs. Houston they are in ahead of Washington.
Same with Penn St. vs Pitt.
Same with Michigan vs Iowa.

We are glad to see some newcomers like Ohio State and Washington.
Clemson's defense may prevent them from winning the title.

I think Alabama's defense and experience will give them the title.

Bravo! Excellent troll post! The committee clearly factored in the result of a bowl game from 3 seasons ago when giving Clemson the #2 ranking!

Idiocy.

Basically, you're saying that all Power 5 teams should schedule doormat independent schedules and hope to win their conference with one or fewer losses. No consideration should be paid to strength of schedule over the number of fewest losses.

At this point they COULD, but if they stumble then they have to realize that their SOS will hurt them.

Again, if Oklahoma doesn't lay an egg vs. Houston they get in over Washington because of Washington's weak schedule. If Penn St. doesn't lay an egg vs Pitt they get in over Washington because of their weak schedule. If Michigan doesn't lay an egg vs. Iowa they get in ahead of Washington because of their weak schedule.

If any one of those three teams perform on the field Washington is excluded because they had the weakest schedule among those 4 teams.

So IF a team wanted to schedule powder puffs they COULD, but it could very well come back to bite them in the ass. Ohio St. got in over Penn St. even though they lost head to head and Penn St. won the conference specifically because they had a really strong non-conference schedule and beat another Power 5 conferences champion.

I don't think you'll see a race to the bottom, and even if you do, SOS becomes that much more relevant because you'd likely have every conference with an undefeated or 1 loss champ. Then you'd have to look at SOS. So you could still find your weak ass SOS keeping you out. It is a tricky thing to balance.

When all is said and done, when at all possible, I think the committee also strives for diversity.

E.g., if the number 3 non-conference champion had been in the PAC-10, and not the Big Ten, Penn State and not Washington would have been the number 4 seed despite its extra loss IMO.

There should be some suggestions for the Power 5 conferences. First, they should all play a 9 game conference schedule. The Pac 12 and Big Ten already do this. Second, you cannot schedule any FBS or FCS teams. Third, you must play at least 5 true road games. This season both Michigan and Auburn only played 4 road games. Alabama has not played a true non-conference road game since 2009.

One thing I will say about Ohio State is they go out and schedule legit home and homes with teams from the other power 5 conferences. Oklahoma in 2016 and 2017. TCU in 2018 and 2019. Oregon in 2020 and 2021. Texas in 2022 and 2023. Virginia Tech in 2014 and 2015.

They don't save these tough opponents for neutral sites like a number of other teams do, such as Alabama.

At Clemson, we love statements like this - makes the victories taste that much sweeter. Also reminds me of what we heard out of the Sooner fans last year (and the year before).

When you schedule that far in advance.. there's no telling. Clemson has a home/home schedule against Auburn for '16 and '17, they played at Auburn this year, so next year Auburn comes to Clemson.. Then in 18/19 they trade off a home/home with Texas A&M before going to Notre Dame in 2020.. But.. Auburn was good this year, not great, but good.. These are teams that SHOULD be good when they play them, but you never know. Notre Dame was great last year, but was a big pile of suck this year.. What will they do in 2020?

they only 'guaranteed' game against a ranked team that Clemson gets each year is Florida State. But, every now and again, Georgia Tech steps up, who they play about every other year. Louisville and NC State occasionally jump up and have a good year.
