I’m from Texas I love football I watch a lot of BIG 12 football it’s fun but there’s not a lot of defense it’s a offensive conference. I’ve noticed the SEC is going that way to copy the NFL with its high scoring but the SEC plays defense, when I watch A&M they got a good defensive line but there’s no playmakers in their secondary, and the corners get beat by good receivers. There’s no emphasis on defense in these High Schools is geared to the offense, this state produces QBs, RBs, WRs, OL, and Kickers lol but there’s been some good DL coming out but there’s aren’t any good LBs, there’s been good DBs but the good ones leave the state and the the ones that need be coached up go to the A&Ms, UT and OU. The Corners got to play physical and win battles with these receivers, a lot of the good receivers beat up these corners and when these guys play in the SEC or BIG 12 they get beat up again.

At first I thought you were asking about the Longhorns, and that was going to elicit a resounding yes from me. Lol
It does seem like the high schools in Central Texas put a lot of emphasis on the offensive side of the ball, given all the high scores we see every Friday night.

But there are a few HS programs like Westlake near Austin that give equal attention to defense along with their offense.
In Westlake’s quest to threepeat their 6A division title run, the Chaparrals (13-0) have outscored opponents 753-100 this season.

However, that does not necessarily mean they are developing individual bluechip defensive stars, but rather a superior cohesive unit of defenders that is well coached and developed through a system that begins at the 7th grade level.
Lake Travis High School has a similar program.

With the recent rule changes, it has made it more difficult to defend, although it appears this year that a few more teams were excellent defensively than in previous years.

As far as Texas high school, I think it is obvious that the best athletes all play on offense, which wasn’t the case a generation or two ago.

Also, the proliferation of 7 on 7 camps has also led to even more emphasis on offenses in Texas.

I enjoy watching a well played defensive game, so I’m hoping the trend of defenses improving continues.

But I’m skeptical because the new rules really make it difficult.

What were the rule changes?
