Awwww......how could I have forgotten Charles White and Marcus Allen. The very first football game I ever went to as a little kid was a USC game where Charles White rushed for like 215 yards. I was too young to know much about football at the time, but I do remember the Coliseum crowd going crazy.

Just curious - I can't seem to remember. I blame the booze.
B. Sanders returned punts and kickoffs and "backed up" T. Thomas. I don't think they actually played on the field at the same time, I could be wrong, if thats what you mean by "truly a tandem".

IMO they were truly a tandem. Sanders was used a little bit less but still averaged 4.5 ypc and 5.7 respectively. Then in '88 he broke out and won the heisman and set NCAA records.

Thanks!

I was just curious because if they did share the field - WOW!

I think Ricky Williams/ Priest Holmes shared the load for a year or two at Texas

It has to be hands down Barry Sanders and Thurman Thomas. No other RB tandem could hold a candle to them in the NFL.

I think Marion Barber and Lawrence Maroney at Minnesota were the only backfield to put up 1000 yds each in consecutive years

If only Maroney lived up to his potential and matched what Barber is doing with the Cowboys!

Default Great Running Back Tandems

Those are two good choices. I have followed Darren McFadden since his Junior High days. I have always thought that the great 1945 Army team with the two Heisman winners in the same backfield should be considered. Glenn Davis and Doc Blanchard were two of the all time best.
