I'd like to give a shout out for LT at TCU. Let's look at his stats;
Rushing yards: 5263
In 1998, helped TCU past the USC Trojans in the Sun Bowl 28-19; Credit goes to Basil Mitchell
Prior to LT, TCU appeared in 2 bowl games in the last 34 years
Ran for 406 yards in one game as a junior
Ran for 1850 yards that year and 18 TDs
Senior year, ran for 2158 yards and 22 TDs, came in 4th in Heisman running
That's 40 TDs in his last 2 years.
Had his number retired in 2005
I seem to recall Marshall Faulk dominating in college, as well as the aforementioned LaDainian Tomlinson
The Heisman isn't important to me. It is a biased selection committee. They favor certain positions, certain schools, certain parts of the country, etc.
Stats don't tell the big picture, either. Everyone plays against different competition.

Agree with you there,
Everyone does play against different competition and I'm of the believer that those players who play for lesser teams also have less talent around them to make them who they are. That makes up for those players who play for big schools, with big time players.
Because at the end of the day, no matter who you are, you need those other players around you to make you a better player.

I don't see how it evens out. If you put Peyton Manning or LT in a middle school league, you're saying his stats won't be as impressive, because he has a middle school offensive line? Come on.
It's really kind of sad that no one has mentioned Vince Young while all this Tim Tebow jock sniffing has gone on. Tebow isn't even among the best 3-5 college QBs let alone best player.
I'm a Penn State fan...I pick Kerry Collins quarterback, who argueably led the Nittany Lions to their most impressive season ever and possibly their best team of all time.
Heck, then I'll pick Pat Haden who quarterbacked the USC Trojans to an undefeated National Championship season in 1972. And he wasn't even the best player on that team!!!
My for real pick would probably be Hershel Walker.
Location: I currently exist only in a state of mind. one too complex for geographic location.

the question wasn't about the best QB. it was about the best player, and probably 90% of the sports world disagrees with you.
Vince Young? I say this cause he took his team on his shoulders and beat the unbeatable USC goliath. But of course there are names from goal post to goal post we can say. Jus my opinion.
