I read this article in the paper today and wondered what others thought of the idea. Here's a brief synopsis:

"Next fall, Philadelphia University will introduce a College of Design, Engineering, and Commerce. It will combine existing design, engineering, and business majors, put students from all three into some of the same classes, and make them tackle real-world projects for the new, if uncertain, economy."

It sounds like a new uncertain degree program. I guess instead of sorta-sucking at just one thing, students from this program and really suck at 3 things.

Also, at least from my experience, good designers tend to be bad at more technical disciplines like engineering and business.

Philly U chooses their majors in response to what they think the businesses want or need. I was just talking to some friends whose daughter graduated with a degree in Industrial design (from RIT) and they were saying that she wishes that she had some engineering classes integrated into her curriculum. She told them that she uses more math in her everyday work then she ever thought she would and is learning on the job what she should have learned in college. In my son's college searches I have seen more integrated majors then I remember from a few years ago with my other kids.
