Hello Friends,
I wanted to do masters in accounting. I would like to know about future prospects , Admission process (Avg GPA score or GMAT) for one of the college (Ex : Baruch or Rutgers) . I do not have any work experience and i will require international visa to study here. If some one can describe the process for international students, that will be great.
From what I have heard, the only thing that matters in accounting is that you get your CPA (if you plan on staying in America that is). The requirements to sit for your CPA vary from state to state. Some states only require a bachelor's degree to do so. In that case, a masters is a waste of time.
I'm assuming they picked the course for the purpose of immigrating, rather than it's career prospects. Having a Masters degree from a US college opens up your visa possibilities greatly.
In Texas, you have to have a certain amount of graduate hours to sit for the CPA exam, so getting a Masters degree makes sense here. My husband got his "MACY" (that's what he calls his Masters of Accountancy - isn't that a cute name for it?) and is in the process of passing the various exams - meanwhile, he's making good money and will make even more when he can add CPA to his title.
I might be biased by our own positive experiences, but from where I sit, it seems like a pretty darn good idea to me.
