One time I used an assistant teacher at my son's previous school (elementary school) and she charged $20 per hour for language tutoring. The arrangement worked well but we eventually moved. About a year ago I wanted to find a tutor for geology and some students (undergrads) were wanting to charge $60 per hour. I thought this was an insane price and didn't use any of those students.

I'm currently looking for a math tutor for a 3rd grader and wondering what a fair price would be in your opinion? I'm in the D.C. area. Thanks for your input.

Most teachers charge about $40 an hour in this area for an elementary student. So I guess a college student would be less than that.
For a 3rd grader, I have found that much over 45 min. at a time gets to be a bit long. Right now I am tutoring one student twice a week, 45 min. each session. $75 total.

lol just 10$/hr. If you post an ad on craigslist, you'll probably get dozens of people who will work for that rate. Just look for a college student who is majoring in a subject that the student needs to be tutored in.

Also 3rd grade math isn't even complex its probably just general math. You don't need a math genius to teach that stuff.

I doubt if she will find anybody to tutor for $10/hr, even a college student. Maybe $20.
