Soon to be official. This is the headline under section 502 of the newly drafted budget bill.
For all those students in graduate school who were able to secure federal subsidized loans in the previous years, post July 1, 2012, those days are gone; illustrates the additional financial burden to be placed on graduate students. (page 71 of below link)
The deal also takes out incentives for the timely repayment of student loans
Of course it would get terminated, being that education is considered such a wortlhless expense and all. I suppose the people that are unable to afford Graduate school, despite working their tails off, are considered worthless as well.

I agree, to a point. It is only worthless if you cannot afford it. How many members of Congress are without a college degree?
The new American Way - people without money AND education are devalued by our society.
Rich people, no matter how they became rich, seem to be idealized.
Why do we lag behind other countries? It's our priorities.
How is this Socialism? It is a move in the opposite direction.

If I read it correctly, grad students would still be able to receive unsub loans up to the amount of any subsidized loans they may have received. So, really, they would be getting the same amount of money in loans, but they would end up repaying more $$$ in the end.
I'm not clear on the details of the debt ceiling bill yet, but I know a lot is yet to be decided. There's supposed to be this "commission" to work out some more cuts. So perhaps things will change. We can hope. Med students, etc are going to be SOL if this becomes law.
