Default Geography vs. Political Science

I am changing my major again and right now my two choices are either Geography or Political Science. I perfer Geography as I find it more interesting and it is somewhat of a passion. I find PS interesting, but some of the classes my school calls for I think I would be rather bored by. With that said, I was asking two of my co-workers and they both thought my job prospects would be better with Political Science. I also already have a internship in a legislators office, but I know I do not want to work in Politics as I find it too partisan.

What is y'alls take?

If we're strictly talking about career prospects, I'd go with Poli sci.

While not exactly an "in demand" degree, it does have it's options.

I think Political Science is more versatile but you could make either one work. Don't bother with Geography unless you take plenty of GIS/mapping classes.

Geography is a waste of time if you don't plan on GIS/Cartography/Remote Viewing....

Poly Sci is just a waste time...

I would recomend you combine both interests into international affairs/relations/studies or whatever your school calls it.

I like both but also know I don't want to WORK in politics but I find it immensly intersting to read and discuss. My major is international studies but i work for a business. If you go that route then you MUST explore your interests as it is a broad major. Once you do that you can focus and further pick classes that suit your career field. Stay in school if you need to do it.

My school does not have a BA in international affairs. They do have a minor in international politics, but if I am a PS major I am not even sure if I can do that minor as most of the course requirements overlap.

The Geography program at my school does have 3 GIS classes, and some on spatial data. Is that a strong program? It does not seem like it to me.

I am siding more toward PS at the moment since I already have my foot in the door with a internship, plus I feel a PS degree would give me more options in to where I want to move.

I have not made my mind up totally yet though, as I still feel like I will be more entertained by the geography degree.

If I do not plan of getting a MA upon graduation which major is more likely to give me a job without a higher degree. I am thinking it is probably PS, what is your take?

Geography has better job prospects IF you take GIS courses. Otherwise they're both just liberal arts degrees.

I'm a geog major and, at least at my school, it's an open major and hence the true fallback for those of us who couldn't get into CS and business lol.

I haven't graduated but I do have a job that I will go to after i'm done. My degree would be an absolute and complete waste if I didn't have the GIS skills to back it up. If you really want to get employed you'll get some computer programming skills . You might even come out with a decent salary.

I did a minor in GIS, major in geology.
I did the GIS so I would have a job skill.

I now have a good job as a GIS Specialist.

Always good to have a job skill.
