I'm thinking about getting a master's in American literature, with a goal of teaching writing courses at the community-college level.

Does anyone have any firsthand feedback on the programs available from the more reputable schools in the greater DC area (e.g., Georgetown, UVA, Va. Tech, George Mason, perhaps U. Md.)?

I'm 100% not interested in the for-profit and/or online-only schools. That said, I would be interested in an online-only master's from a reputable, well-established brick-and-mortar school (regardless of the school's location), if such a program exists.

I would have to do this in the evenings and/or on weekends, to avoid conflict with my job.

What programs are held in highest regard?

Which have the greatest student satisfaction?

Which are the most accommodating of students who are employed full-time?

Which have the greatest "bang for the buck"?

Thanks for any suggestions!
