I have a BA in English and 12 credit hours towards an MBA (which I'm sure will never be completed).
My minor study is in Marketing and one of these days I think I'd like to get a degree in that as well, just for the fun of it. (And because it will help with my business).
A.S. in Computers and Information Technology and no, it's not the same as Computer Science. It's a loosely related but totally separate field. At any rate, I'll have that B.S. by May of next year. Go me!

Don't tell that to my sister with her B.A. in English, because that degree (along with experience) landed her a gig as a project manager at a small company. Her subsequent M.B.A. pushed her right up against six-figure-salary territory, so she'll cross that money line in due time. Did luck play any part in her being in the right place at the right time? Maybe, or maybe not, but either way her degree definitely isn't worthless in my opinion.
The only positive impacts I've had with the English degree were comments from several of my grad professors who said that I was a strong writer.
Then again, if you've ever tried to read a social science research article, it gets infuriating trying to slog through 30-50 pages of talking in circles and wondering if/when the author will get to the f***king point
I've read a few extremely lengthy social science articles for a communications class, and it was a stark reminder of why I'd rather french kiss a Burmese python than major in communications or English! That's just me though, I like techy degrees for some reason.
