You are attempting to water down her accomplishments, too.

Thankfully, there has not been too much of that on this thread. I recall that at one forum I frequent, a poster was claiming a 3.6 was a "pathetic" GPA!

Certainly not pathetic. But not spectacular either.

3.6 is pretty much the absolute minimum for med school.

I guess the issue is that folks like burglar09 think the minimum is spectacular.

To be a fair, a 3.6 in engineering and the hard sciences is pretty damn impressive, but a 3.6 in the liberal arts is just modestly decent at most universities.

All of this is besides the point, since we are not talking about her entire college career. We are talking about the first semester. Getting a B+, or a 3.6, in what is supposed to be your transition semester is good. There is nothing negative about it. End of story.

What do you call a medical student with a B average after he/she graduates? Doctor!

A variation:

Q: What do you call the guy that graduated last in his med school class?

A: Doctor.

Back to the original question. The typical first semester freshman will drop between .5 and 1.0 from his/her high school GPA, regardless of major or classes taken.
