If someone has an english degree (either bachelor level or master) what can they do with it besides teach?
My mother graduated with a Bachelor's degree in English and worked at an insurance company as an underwriter. I know that some advertising agencies favor people with English degree; same thing with some marketing positions. You may be writing strategic sales copy or doing something along those lines.
Lol. While this does certainly hold more truth in this type of economy, I still think an English major may have some chances of landing a decent job provided they sell themselves well in an interview.
Unfortunately, to the OP, English degrees don't hold the same value they did 50 years ago.

Some chance? Yes...but that can be said of anybody.
What is interesting is that the high number of people that get degrees and then think, after they are done, about what they are going to do with it...
A number of friends with English degrees come to mind. One went to med school, and is a very successful physician. Another is VP of development for an important non-profit. A third heads a public relations agency. Yet others went to law school, and are partners in firms. One thing they all have in common is that they probably earn more money than the clowns who will inevitably post here about fast food or barista jobs.
Hubby is finishing up his BA in English, then onto his Masters, and he will be teaching post secondary. He also freelances a few articles locally, as well as edits a few things.
If you can prove extroverted enough, I bet you have a fair shot at a sales gig and from there work your way up a big company or establish your own thing and see what you like.
You could sell advertising space, houses, cars, insurance, pharma-type stuff, maybe even techie stuff, I'm not sure but I know the opportunities are out there.
