My community college has a foundation that gives out $235,000 in scholarship money a year and there r about 235 students who get scholarship money.
I met all the requirements, and was said I would get it, but then they wanted to disqualify me for not taking classes this semester. Well, I have over 45 units and an AA from the community college and I filed a waiver for not taking classes this semester. My financial adviser says I have a good chance they will still award with me with the scholarship.
On my waiver, I mentioned I got into the number public college in the state and that I had to stop working during Fall in order to pass my classes and mentioned I will be going back to work in Summer this these 2 tough semesters are over. I mentioned without my job I couldn't afford to pay gas to drive to my community college 50 minutes away and had to go to a closer community college.
Not only that but I was invited to a special event to meet the president of my community college and I have written several letters to the editor in our local paper and one in support of my community college.
With all this, I think I will get the scholarship.
I am not so much in it for the amount of cash, but to say I got a scholarship and be able to speak at the banquet would make me proud and happy.
June 3rd is the banquet and April and May is when students hear if they get awarded.
One thing I don't really understand is how random your posts are. One thread you're talking about a 62,000 dollar a year job with a 15,000 dollar bonus and raising a family. Now you're talking about being in a community college and just preparing to transfer. Another thread you were talking about a mentor and investing in a friendship :S

Wait..so you're asking for a scholarship from a college that you're not going to anymore?
If so, those scholarships should ONLY go to the kids who are currently enrolled in that college.
it is also for students who transferred from that college.
