Yes, but that varies depending on the major.
Some majors require, say, three credits of math. Thekids could just take Calc 1 for the easy A, but every one I know took Calc 2.
I did dual enrollment in HS so I had automatic Cal 1 and Cal 2 credit by the time I graduated HS. I signed up for Cal 3 my first semester in college. BIG mistake. I had no clue what college classes were like so jumping into a higher up math class where the professor was expecting to teach upperclassmen was shocking to the system to say the least. I had a melt down after the first test, but buckled down and got a B. I almost made an A, but there are no pluses or minuses on that grading scale. All B's are treated the same.
Looking back now I wished I had waited until at least the 2nd semester to take Cal 3. I still graduated in the top 3 of my civil engineering class, so I think it worked out.
He should take it over...it's not about passing classes, it's about understanding the material.
He got a 5 on the exam, the highest score possible. He got a B- in the class. It seems he knows the material.

My daughter got a 3 on the AP test, and the policy at her school was that she could take calc 2, and if she passed it with a "B" or better they'd give her the AP credit for the 3. She did as advised, and passed the course with either an A or B. (This was 10 years ago, I can't remember for sure.) This was at a school with an excellent math dept. The OP's kid is ready for Calc 2 for sure.
I would not do it. Why spend 1,000+ Dollars on if when you do not have to!? I found Calc 1 to be very easy. Nothing you can not quickly look up in the future.
Unless you have the money and the time to retake it for the grade. Other than that, hell no.
Thank you all for your responses. He decided to take Calc 2.
