Even people with Down Syndrome can get 4 year degrees today! Higher education is no longer about serving the best interests of society or helping people improve their lives. Rather, it's only about acquiring government-provided tuition dollars regardless of whether it benefits society or inflicts permanent damage on young people with student loans.

I think residetial schools are important for all students. Students who are marginal do not do well at community colleges. And students with learning disabilities really need the support of Disability Services.

There is too much distraction involved in living off campus. Living ON campus in a community, limits those distractions.

I never lived on campus and graduated from a top tier university in the top 5% of my class. I know lots of students that didn't live on campus that also graduated with honors.

Students that are marginal actually might do better at a community college because of the smaller classes. That's where I started because my grades in high school were horrible. I was able to transfer to a really competitive university where I ended up maintaining a very high GPA.

And no, dyslexia does not count as serious diagnosed mental retardation.
