At the schools I've been to, they do accept credits older than 5 years. It seems like private schools tend to reject them more often for some reason. I don't know much about this particular situation BUT I think I heard that you have to take a year's worth of classes or something like that before you can start up on another 4-year degree, so it's somewhere in the middle.
Honestly, you might as well just earn an MS/MA.
