Yeah, i'm really confused about the whole situation.

According to US. News, the school has an acceptance rate of 100%.

While I know that only about 30% of applicants get into CUNY Baruch and CUNY Hunter, and even most CUNY schools are very hard to get into.

all and only CUNY PhDs are run through the grad center. if you are looking for a masters or bachelors, you instead apply to a particular campus

the 100% admit rate is probably referring to the fact that certain campuses - the two year community colleges i believe - are still open admission (in other words, anyone with a GED or HS diploma can go)

however, most (all?) of the 4 year programs are not open admission, and no graduate programs are

for the PhDs, how competitive admission is depends on your subject. some departments are much more highly regarded and selective in their admits than others

for the masters it's a combination of subject and campus

for the bachelors it depends on the campus, i think

what is your field and degree level?

What I have heard - much easier to get in, than to get out.

The Graduate Center does not have 100 percent acceptance. Other CUNY programs do, but definitely not that one. I have a friend who got accepted for an English PhD at NYU but didn't get into the Graduate Center.

yes, their english program is among the best in the nation

other departments, not so much, although in general it is not a bad school

A slight tangent, but it think one problem with the Graduate Center is its silly name. Some of its departments are very good indeed, but it has very little name recognition outside of the area. “Graduate Center” is so vague and doesn’t really do much for the school.
