Looking to go back to school and I understand that I will be handwriting papers. And sloppy handwriting would effect my grade (I have extremely bad handwriting by the way).
Considering my age, whats the best way to improve my handwriting?

Go back to junior high and become a girl. Then pass a few thousand notes around about shallow topics and you will be set!

Handwriting papers? Everyone I know types their papers.
That said, if you still want better handwriting... practice, practice, practice!

Exactly! I had terrible handwriting, but handwritten notes are a must in my business! I spent months copying examples of neat handwriting and mine improved over time. It's not great penmanship now, bit it's acceptable and much better than it used to be.
Find a sample of what you believe to be "good" handwriting. Copy it. Write like that for everything you write. Write slowly.
I have bad hand writing when I'm writing notes for myself or trying to write really fast, which is why I prefer typing. But when it comes down to having proper hand writing, I can do it if I take my time.

What? They are not even teaching cursive anymore in many schools. I'm a little shocked to hear that they still do it in college. Seems like even tests could be done on a laptop and turned in on a flashdrive. If this is the case, the only way to improve is practice. Other than signing things I rarely write so mine has become more sloppy from lack of use.

There are so old handwriting books that you can find on Amazon or at a local bookstore for $5 or less.
They are really low because handwriting is not really emphasized, so I wouldn't recommend spending over 10 bucks.

Since what you need is legibility, consider a blend of cursive and printing. Whichever way to make the letters is easier, do it.
If you choose an Italic method, you dispense with loops.
