I paid my bills with financial aide and a part time job. You should get a refund you can spend how you want to.

I can add that I know a kid that bought a used boat (beater) with excess student loan money.....boat is long gone but the debt is still there! Moral of the story, borrow the least amount you can and pay it off as soon as possible!

There was a recent story about a student who used $2,500 in student loans to pay for a trip to Thailand for him and his girlfriend.

A number of cynics are already asking if he'll be in the mass of students clamoring for loan forgiveness / better terms, or ends up defaulting on the loan.

But if he takes responsibility and completes his degree and pays it off, well, I guess good for him?
