ITT Technical Institute
I'm looking into the Criminal Justice course. Has anyone been to this school? What are your opinions on the quality of instructors, environments, subject matter, etc.?

Ten years ago, I probably would have told you to look elsewhere but I think today, places like ITT are really coming about. I know in Northern Virginia, they have several great programs especially for areas like Criminal Justice where a four year degree is not necessary.
I am a firm believer that you can get a good education, at the college level, anywhere as long as you put enough into it.
Good luck!

I would ask around in the field, people that are in the field, and see if they recommend this school. I know some of the "technical" schools advertised on TV can be expensive and the degrees are not well regarded in the fields they advertise (mostly electronics because of outsourcing and H1B visa pressures). Criminal justice is a whole other field though.
Look into the occupational outlook handbook that the govt. puts out for information also for info on specific fields and education.

Why would you ever go to ITT Tech or any place like it? Its going to cost you between 20k-60k for a degree, depending on the length of the degree. My whole entire bachelors degree cost less then 20k at public colleges and universities. Private "technology" or "business" colleges are a joke, and always will be.

What did you go to school for? What area do you live in? What's the economy like there? Did you have a lot of hands-on, do-it-yourself training?

Go to a real school. ITT is a substandard education not to mention expensive. Take the time and attend your local college/university. We won't hire anyone that has attended ITT, DeFry, American Intercontinental, Kaiser, etc.

I went to school for Finance, I live in the mid-Atlantic on the coast (Norfolk, VA), the economy is excellent, but the wages are depressed for professional white collar individuals. I was not in a degree path that required "hands on do it yourself training", but many of the degree paths at both the junior college and university level have extensive "hands on" training. It just depends on what you are going for.
Places like ITT Tech like to accuse your local community college of not offering hands on training, but its a sales pitch. Tidewater Community College offers HVAC, Truck Driving, Auto Mechanics, practical nursing, computer networking, etc, and they all have just as much hands on training as ITT Tech, except for about 1/5 of the price.
The only appeal those places have is that they "award" you a "degree" in a fraction of the time that you would get one at a community college or University. Unfortunatley thats one of the TOP reasons why employers spit on degrees from places like that. They are pretty much a degree mill in a legit schools clothing.

The main worry is transferability of the credits and accredidation. You are looking for a school that is "regionally accredited" and im pretty sure ITT isnt. Most CCs, public and private universities want to see that accredidation when transfering in credits from another school. So if you think you might want to continue your education I would look for a regionally accredited school.
