I bet they say music was better then too, right? Nostalgia distorts reality.
Exactly. My mother started working as a farm laborer during summers at age 11 in 1932. Her mother and siblings were so impressed that they joined her. To hear them talk about their experiences 30-40 years later, you'd have thought they were on vacation!
Anybody who's worked in ag fields knows that it's miserable, backbreaking labor which is why so many farm workers are illegals. Most Americans, and even legal immigrants, won't do it.
I doubt very seriously people are going to college for the sake of learning something and educating their minds. That's too stupid of a conclusion.
They aren't. It has been shown elsewhere that 90% of people go to college primarily to get a job once they graduate. Plain and simple.
If they thought they were merely going to "learn something" or "educate their minds," then most of these people would never consider spending tens of thousands of dollars of their parents' hard-earned money for college.

I would like to see the sources for that.
I'd also like to know why you're under the assumption that students are using their parents money.

I too would like to see sources for those bs statistics. There seems to be a disparity between older graduates and more recent graduates. College isnt what it use to be. Advice given 20-30 years ago, is not applicable today.
In your comments, please state your graduation year and what degree you have.
Thank you
I don't regret going to college. But I do regret taking 6 years to get a degree in a non marketable liberal arts field.
I DO regret going to graduate school because I didn't know what to do with my life, and then dropping out after taking out ~12K loans for the privilege.
