The OP didn't say what her mortgage costs were but I suspect that they are much higher than that.
On the other hand, a 1 bedroom provided by Harvard is over $2000 per month. BC costs up to $5500 per 3-4 month semester. A dorm at BU costs $9,200-12,850 for a 9 month school year, BU's apartment style housing costs between $12,000 and $16,000.

CN: it depends on location. Colleges in metro Boston will cost between $1200 and $2000+ per month for housing.

I didn't mean to offend anybody. And I never said I wasn't looking for a job. I just asked a question.

I don't remember the cost of dorm rooms. These were her rent costs for off campus housing. There are many 1 bedroom apartments near her college that rent for $1,000 to $1,500 per month. She just couldn't afford them.

I worked full time, and went to school at night and on weekends. Many community colleges (and even some universities) have a PACE program for working adults where you go to school one night a week and every other Saturday, and it's a full load. I did that for my AA degree, then transferred to a state university and finished up my BA degree with night classes in my major, taking 3 classes a semester, and taking summer night classes. There was one class the school never offered at night, that was required, but I talked to the dept chair and he subbed another class for me. I finished all my schooling in five years.

I went on to get a k-12 teaching credential, and my MA degree.

ALL of this while working full time, and I had a baby inbetween getting my AA and BA. My key was a spouse willing to do a lot of evening childcare to support my attending school. It paid off financially for us.

I did get Stafford Loans and I am still paying them off....many years later. But it allowed me to go to school.

Best wishes!

Who cares if you offended anyone. You are looking for information and if they can't handle it, they can go jump off a cliff. I really hope you can find a job because I know a lot of companies, including Walmart, are in a loss right now. These companies that are at a loss are so mismanaged it's surprising these giant corps are still in business, but I guess only in a matter of time.

I would try to find a job first before thinking about school. Paying for your house and food is priority. Good luck.
