I remember seeing all the Everest commercials during Springer and other trash TV. It obviously wasn't going very far targeting that demographic.

Yet more evidence that for profit "colleges" (using that term loosely) are worthless and a waste of time and money.

Champagne for all!!!!

(Except for the students, of course. I hope they sue those schools dry.)

About time. Can't believe they've stayed open this long. Sure hope the students sue - though to be fair they should have done their due diligence before enrolling.

Everest is accredited by ACICS. While it's recognized by the government, most regionally accredited schools either do not accept degrees and credits from nationally accredited schools or will consider them on a case-by-case basis. Everest knows its target audience; that's why they advertise during shows like Jerry Springer. They target single mothers and unemployed men. Their commercials are famous for being embarrassing.

The for-profit education industry is incredibly destructive, and I hope they aren't the last to fall. Their M.O. has been to target poor, ignorant folks who are trying to get an education so that they can shackle them with insanely structured student loans in exchange for a useless degree that most students won't even acquire. It's a hustle, and it's crazy we've allowed it to get this far.

One silver lining that has come out of all these for profit school scandals, is that many legitimate brick and mortar schools have jumped on the online/distance education bandwagon.

I remember back in the late 90's, when I finally decided to start classes at community college.

There weren't too many options for working adults, and even less for online classes. Nowadays, many quality and reputable colleges and universities across the country are offering online classes/degrees.

I wish I had these options back then.
