From what Ive experienced and watched my friends go through:
1. Accounting
2. Everything else
I believe this stems from the fact that accounting requires a Certification that can only be fulfilled by having an accounting degree. Most banking, finance, "business jobs" simply say "Business degree required" in the application. However accounting jobs require an accounting degree.
Economics is not a business degree unless it's in a business school. Economics is a social science and, thus, a liberal art.
There's a bit of confusion on this with people because very often a posting for a business job like banking will say "Required: Bachelors in Finance, Accounting, or Economics, etc..." Plus in a lot of Uni's Econ is taught in the business school. So a lot of people call it a business degree mistakenly.

At my University, there is the plain ol' Economics major and then there is a "Business Economics" major. The difference is that the regular Economics major is really just Economics, along with a minor. The Business Economics major has no minor, but also includes the business classes that are not available to non-business majors, like all the finance and marketing courses in the curriculum, along with economic courses.
