With a BBA, I think people should pursue their interests with the caveat that gaining experience in college is a must. There's no point in going into accounting if you can't stand balance sheets and income statements.
If you want to major in a business subject, choose either:
- Accounting/Finance
- IT/Computer Systems
Depending on where you are looking to go in the career. Are you looking to work in the Accounting sector or the Financial sector? OR are you looking to work in the IT and Computer Science sector?
The good thing about the business disciplines is that when you choose one of the programs I outlined, included with the program will be studies on the other general areas of management, operations, decision sciences, marketing, economics and risk management.
Plus, if you are going into IT, make sure you grab those IT certifications because that's what's going to really get you into the positions you want in that field. If you are going into Accounting, look at the CPA or CMA, if you are going into Finance as a Trader then you want to look at the CFA. If you are going into just a financial services position, I would look at the Accounting degree only without any certifications and instead grab a side unranked MBA from a regionally accredited quality college.
