People overestimate the job opportunities and pay for the "S" in STEM. A bachelor's degree in biology, particularly, comes with mediocre job opportunities and mediocre pay. Chemistry is better, but still not all that great. There are non-STEM majors that outperform both. Ironically, biology is the only STEM major on the top 10 most popular degrees list, and it's probably one of the worst to obtain. I think a lot of people complete this major with the intention of going to medical school and most don't.
