I am finishing up nursing perquisites worried being wait listed. The community colleges in our state went under one network to make it easier to increase chances of getting in. So instead of applying to one program can apply to three programs at once. Still had a friend who was wait listed for three year's. Decided to go for Respiratory therapy and now in P.A. school.

Any recommendations for other medical professions to go for at the community college level? Was looking into Dental Hygienist, Physical Therapy Assistant, Nuclear Medicine, Medical Technologist, and Radiology Therapist...Any feedback is appreciated.

would this be instead of nursing, or something to do while waiting?

and an end career? or a step to being a P.A.?

I think it depends on your interest. Would it bother you to be in people's mouths all day long? Physical therapy Assistant, that field is fairly competitive and you have to keep people movitated to worth through their pain. Nuclear medicine, is probably your high paid job. Medical Tech, you do a lot for little pay. Radiology therapy, you are at risk for exposure of radiation. I know a radiology nurse who had a very hard time getting pregnant like the other nurses she worked with. Even though they haved a monitor they wear to check how much radiation they are exposed to. I personally wouldn't want to take that risk. I have heard respiratory therapy is an excellent choise. Do they offer ultrasound? That is a good career as well.

Look into loan forgiveness programs in your area for working in underserved areas. If you commit to working in one of those areas for a certain number of years, 3-5 years usually, they pay off a good portion of your student loans. I know in our area, dental hygienists are included in that program but the other programs you mentioned are not. Also, hygienists have WAY better hours.
