I have a comprehensive final exam in math this Thursday and just finished the last assignment for the class. I was kind of surprised to find out that the exam would be comprehensive (which she told us a few weeks prior). That would include 22 sections. I really dont know how I should study for this, and getting a panic attack. Do I crack the book open and study the entire 22 sections? My husband suggested that I study the midterm and all the new materials since then. He thinks she's going to pull stuff from the midterm that are similar but will probably be focusing more on the material since then. His suggestion makes sense, so I am currently looking at my midterm and studying the questions I missed. Anyone who would like to offer additional advises so this mama can pass her math class? I currently have a high B but wouldnt mind acing the class. Thanks!

It's too late to study effectively - the time to start reviewing was a few weeks ago when you were told it was comprehensive. Your husband's idea is probably your best bet.

Go see the professor during office hours. Ask for clarification on something, or about the questions you missed on the midterm. Most likely she will share information about what to focus on most. You could just come out and ask, but sometimes that sounds like students are too lazy to study everything.

Study the parts you had the most difficulty. The stuff you know, skim the chapter. Do a complete "book tour" and just get the terms and concepts in your head again.

How is the course structured? Does each topic build on a previous one or are there multiple, almost independent topics. If they build, then I'd focus on the most current (based on the idea that if I can do this, then I should be able do the previous material since it's required for this) and on those critical topics that I have the most trouble with.

The best way to study for a comprehensive exam is to study through the semester, reviewing notes and such continually. Assume going forward that most or all of your finals will be comprehensive and just keep studying through the semester. It's pretty standard in college to have comprehensive exams.

I had my final yesterday, phew! I studied for everything but half of the things I studied for wasnt even on there. It only took me an hour to finish the final of the allotted 2 hours. Felt like I overstudied, but I guess thats the point of these exams, you never know exactly whats going to be on there.
