I understand that these schools are not necessarily highly ranked, but I wanted to get an idea of which school (overall, regardless of program) would be most-respected/most-recognizable across the country. I know certain schools on the list are more respected regionally. I'm having a "friendly" conversation with my coworkers (that are alumni of these schools).

  • Baylor University
  • Syracuse University
  • Villanova University
  • Louisiana State University
  • George Washington University
  • UMass-Amherst

In general, but for the sake of this thread, let's say business.

To be honest... none of those listed.

When I think of undergrad business, I think of CMU, Cornell, Penn, MIT...

I do too, but that wasn't one of the choices.

So I guess you agree that those choices do not have "name-recognition" for business.

Of those you listed, I am most familiar with Syracuse and Villanova, but only because of their athletic departments.

I put Syracuse over Villanova. I would say these two are interchangable as well, lol.

(I did not attend any of the schools listed.)

I think they are all on the same general level except LSU.

To whoever repped me with "If you are not capable of answering the question, don't participate."
1) Thanks for the points! I guess you don't know how that works, but I don't mind.
2) Read and see that I did.

Why does it matter? A very small percentage of employers where you went to school and, of those who do care, I imagine they expect you to have gone to a school that is tops in its field. As long as you don't list a school that is widely considered to lack academic rigor, a degree is a degree. Of the schools you listed, they all have about the same name recognition to me (with LSU and UMass being a little lower),and that name recognition is due to college sports.
