What is in your opinion the most valuable college degree?
I have a degree in Business and economics and it helped me a lot in terms of jobs.
But i think nowadays the most valuable college degrees are Computer Science, anything related to health and food.
Computer Science/ Software eng.= Our lives are dominated by tech; phones, computer, apps, security, cars etc there is always gonna be a need for a computer scientist specially with all the talk about quantum computing
Health: People get sick all the times, new diseases, anti-aging stuff, highest self-aware with own image ever.
Food: Agriculture eng./science/food science: Feed the population is essential, and finding ways to increase supply with the ever increasing demand is top priority.
My friend is an RN with only an Associate's degree in Nursing (ADN), and she earns $105k working for Los Angeles County. So you can imagine what a BSN would get her. Go figure.

Why do people assume that a college degree is necessary for life satisfaction?
Many people enter a trade, either through a formal apprenticeship, work experience, or a 2-year school, and live happy and productive lives without any college at all. I knew many A&P mechanics, some with Inspector Authorization, that lived well, and had little or no formal education beyond High School or military schools.
NO college degree carries a guarantee of happiness!
With the right kind of personality any degree from any school would suffice, just google the stories about corporate brass caught with mail order diplomas, lack of the formal education did not stop them from holding all those supposedly highly educated jobs. And it is especially thought provoking when high level university administrators (making 10x+ of a professor) get caught .The nature of human apes demands the bulk of the output to be appropriated by manegerial elites, and you dont really need an education if you have personality and charisma to boss people around. Education is for grunts, and in that case one needs to look at "value/costs in time and money" ratio.

It depends on where the person with the degree intends to live. If they choose to live in a small town, then they are usually limitied to whatever job opportunities are available in that small town. This might be working in a hospital or school or being a professional in town such as an attorney or doctor or dentist.
Although now there are some techy jobs that allow work-from-home, most of these require experience. So the new CS grad might first have to get some experience by working in a large metro area.
Of course there are exceptions to this - such as if the person opens their own business and creates a company in the small town. Or if that town has a major government office nearby such as the county seat with courts and other county jobs or if there is a miliary base near the small town.
The most valuable degree was the one that sharpened your skills in whatever you 1. Can do very well and 2. Enjoy doing day-to-day. That's how you get set up for a satisfying career.
The most valuable degree also allowed you to become a better, more all-around informed person with reasonable critical thinking skills and an expanded sense of the world. It also helps with your ability to see the big picture and learn new concepts.
