Well which one would you choose? He got into a satellite le campus (Altoona) and is bummed but would maybe do 2/2. He will be doing ROTC which Altoona has.
Failing getting into the Pitt Main campus ; which is better ; pitt satellite or Penn state satellite?
Wish I had my kids issues ; he is doing great and this is the only hiccup he has had in the college process.

Penn State. Every single person I've known in my 63 1/2 years who went to Pitt has been an insufferable prick. I'm one myself so I can recognize that, even though as a recent Pitt grad former colleague told me "That's OK that you went to a state school, not everyone is smart enough to go to Pitt. They try to admit a higher social status student anyway". His dad was a train engineer.
Main, at either school, doesn't have the room for everybody. And you know what? At the end of the day his diploma will still say Penn State.

Aw, c'mon! I'm a Pitt grad. In my day, the nursing program at Pitt was well established and Penn State's was just starting. Pitt was the better place to go for nursing, hands down.

I believe Penn State main has a strong reputation in that program. Does he plan to try to transfer to main campus? If not, his best bet is to see where he gets in and look at curriculum (although they are probably similar), class size, and mentoring/job placement opportunities.
It looks like the PSU Altoona program is only a year old. This can have positives and negatives. On one hand, there may still be some 'growing pains', an the other hand, they will really want a new program to be successful and will want those students to thrive.
Ultimately what matters most, wherever he goes, is that he works hard and takes advantage of available opportunities.
My cousin did 2/2 Altoona/State College. She enjoyed the Altoona atmosphere more since she’s a small town girl.
