GCU has been an actual physical university for over 50 some odd years. It is no different than the other gazillion private Christian Universities that are out there.

There are some posts on this thread that are intimating that GCU is like the University of Phoenix in that it is an on line campus only. That is my point.

The only difference between GCU and all the conservative Christian schools around where I live is that GCU is hyping their on line stuff with national advertising. The ones around here just do it on local and regional basis regarding traditional media.

It's fine to say that GCU on line is a waste of money. Just wanted to clear the air that it is NOT like Uof Phoenix.

GCU does not have the terrible rep of University of Phoenix. It's sad that your son has to waste his time, none the less.

.
Thank you. He is a very conscientious nurse. He just has to do the best he can under the circumstances. He would have preferred a live classroom in our area, but his schedules preclude that.

Years ago I took two online "graduate level" courses from GCU.

Despite the fact that GCU has accreditation, both of these were a joke. I'd advise anyone to beware of them.

Well, it is, because it is a for profit school with a huge marketing arm. Like Walden, U of Phoenix, etc. It's not the same school it was when it was a small non profit Christian school.

Boston College and Notre Dame, it is not.

This. Yes. If they are trying to get you signed up, it's for money. What do they know about you? What is the standard they are using to pursue you? Your name on a list. I agree with those who have said you'll get more "prestige" and a better education (as well as shell out less money) going to a legitimate university.

Per Wikipedia (who knows if its accurate), GCU is once again a non-profit university.

It is interesting that based on the posts here, regional accreditation is pretty much useless. How do you tell which school is any good if the accrediting body is not doing its job?

It's true, back on March 6th, the Higher Learning Commission (HCL) approved their non-profit proposal:

HLC approves GCU non-profit proposal

GCU gets accreditor blessing to revert to nonprofit status

As part of the transition, GCE will sell certain academic-related assets to a non-profit entity that will carry the Grand Canyon University name. “HLC approval is the major step in this process,” Mueller said. “We’re now working toward finishing up the final details that will allow us to complete the transition by the end of the second quarter of 2018.”
