OPPS......BIG MISTAKE...FORGOT TO PUT SUNY'S IN POLL

Let's look at a university naming system that goes like.....Univ of (State) @ (City).

The first school to use the system, the school that invented it, the school that by far stands out from the crowd, the gold (and blue) standard, the school that is only (ONLY!) known by its four initials is UCLA.

What I want to do is to look at all the others that were created with the name of the flagship that have:

• great name recognition

• excellent academic reputation

• major university status

Which schools make the cut?

Parameters:

• flagships don't count.....so no UT Austin, UW Madison, UC Berkeley, UIUC, UNL

• the University of California can be looked at differently because it differs from the rest. It has the most equality between institutions (although Cal and UCLA are the standouts), has quality universities throughout the system, and the name "UC" carries its own power (not the power of the flagship). The only other institution that approaches it is SUNY.

So look at the alphabet soup from UAB, UTEP, UMSL, UIC, UWM, IUPUI, UMKC, UALR, UNLV, SUNY St Bk, SUNY Bin, SUNY Buf etc. and also consider UCSB, UC Irine, UC Davis, UCSD, etc.

Again...Which schools make the cut?

Since no one has voted you have time to add UCLA to the poll.

There's only a couple in that alphabet soup that I know off the top of my head without thinking. That should tell the story.

I'm familiar with most of these schools, but that's because I'm an education nerd, and I'm from Texas. I sound like a broken record, but I think a prospective student should look at which school is best in the major of choice. For example, if I wanted to study criminal justice or criminology, I'd choose UT Dallas.

I don't the SUNY system is anywhere near the UC system. If you mean the institutions are close in quality, then yeah, most SUNY schools are mediocre.

Yeah I don't know about a "best". A handful on that list are pretty well known though.

Purposely left it off because that issue was settled long ago. UCLA is in a class by itself

Received a great education/college experience at UC Riverside...the one UC you left off the list. Is the fastest growing (projected at 40k students) UC for a reason that jumped 39 spots on 2019 US News (#85)...more than any other college in the NATION! Still has that Personal Touch that many other UC's lack with smaller classes, easier access to professors, better financial aid (in many cases), with a more collaborative education where you are not just a number. Has the first new Medical School in California in 50 years. Riverside County is the third fastest growing in the NATION with growth projected through year 2065. UCR positioned very well for the future...will move upward and onward in a BIG way! Go Highlanders!!

UT Dallas is a really strong school for the sciences. It has an interesting history. It started out as a graduate school to service aeronautical students in the space industry around Houston. It only expanded to offer undergraduate programs later.

Sorry to burst your bubble a little bit, but I don't think that is a very good thing at all given that one of your university's most eminent and top student was very competitive at directly murdering a mass of innocent individuals.
