Any geography majors?
I'm currently in university, majoring in geography. Was just wondering if anyone else did the same, and what kind of employment you took upon graduation.
thanks for any responses

I majored in Geography at UC Santa Barbara. I'm currently a graduate student in Demography at the University of Pennsylvania. Lots of my friends in geography took jobs at GIS and mapping firms after graduation and have done quite well. What university are you at by the way?

Ohio State. I'm a sophomore just getting into my core courses but am always thinking about what I want to do when I am gone.
My specialisation is Urban/Regional Studies, which is a B.A. I'll be taking GIS courses, though. Thinking about grad school as well. Demography peaks my interests, as well.

If you're looking to get a job, GIS will do it. I don't know anyone with GIS skills that didn't get a job right out of college. If you're interested in research, I can highly recommend graduate studies, either in Geography or a related subject. I've heard OSU's geog program is pretty strong.

I am a Senior majoring in geography at the University of Louisville. Most geography majors in Kentucky are hired before they even graduate because there is such a high demand for the field.

I'm interested in Urban & Regional Planning for grad school... Has anyone heard which school has the best program? I've been considering the University of South Florida at Tampa, but I'm open to other schools.. Preferably one on the east coast to be in a days drive to WV to see my family.

I sure wish I'd considered geography when I was younger... I've always been interested in geography and, courtesy of the USAF and a career in trucking, I've gotten to see a whole lot of it. But to work with it would be awesome. And I'm glad to see the next generation of regional/urban planners is coming up (Maybe you all should do a minor in political science to go along with it, considering how contentious regional cooperation is in many areas of the U.S.... )
Best of luck to you all!

Got my undergraduate degree in geography at Valparaiso Univ. in Indiana and my MA at Western Michigan Univ. in Kalamazoo Michigan.
I got to do things with family members and never practiced my degree.
Regret it not being a "professional". Perhaps, I will pick up some classes to refresh my memory. I graduated in the early 90's and lots of things have changed since
WMU's program is pretty good, you might want to check into it.

Let me ask a question. Am I the only person on this forum that was one of those nerds that stood in bookstores reading the almanac regarding anything to do with geography such as sq miles, population, history of different regions, geographic areas of different regions, etc. Because that's the type of person I am.
I simply LOVE geography and everything that it is about. Right now I am majoring in Information Technology-Security but in the back of my mind I wonder if I'm majoring in the wrong area. Because I am a geography nut. Even though geology is different, I love that as well because it talks about geography. I don't know, I think I need to change it and go for it. I didn't know you could do much with a geography degree. I see that you actually can now. But at the same time, I absolutely LOVE computers and everything that it is about. I like the mysteries that are involved with them as well.

Spade, I'm with ya! My grandmother gave me a Webster's Geographical dictionary (back in the 1960s... ) that I cherish and have right here on the computer desk to this day! I've always loved learning about the areas I've traveled to (and want to) There's SO much more to travel than just seeing the sights!
