I am a UT alum (class of '05). What are you planning on studying?

It was definitely worth it considering the relatively low cost of tuition for in-state students, good professors, and a large, prosperous alumni base (helps for social networking and landing jobs).

One of the downsides is that some classes tend to be very large so that you won't have as much opportunity to ask questions and interact directly with your instructor(s).

I was thinking maybe international business with a minor in a foreign language, or maybe a liberal arts degree. What was your major?

Computer science and biology.

I never took any business classes, but I have a few acquaintances who graduated with business-related degrees.

I have yet to meet a Longhorn alum or attendee who was disappointed about going to school in Austin. One of the reasons pay there isnt the highest is that people like the area so much no one leaves. If you need alot of attention in class UT or any large U is likely not for you.

I can usually learn pretty well on my own. Except for in math. Does UT have a math lab or anything on campus? somewhere I can get help with that.

There are plenty of places on campus to get help as well as tutors for many different subjects. A lot people study together in the libraries, computer labs, and/or the cafes and restaurants along the Guadalupe St. next to campus.

Well that is good to know. What programs are applied to the least, therefore having the highest acceptance rate?

I'm currently a grad student at UT. I didn't get my undergrad degree here, so I really can't comment on the experience. The campus is very nice, Austin is a great town to live in, and we have good college sports. UT is fairly hard to get into though. Texas has the "top 10% rule" where if you are in the top 10% of your high school class you automatically get in to UT or Texas A&M. As a result, both schools get flooded with people who are mandated admission by the state.

I'm sure you can get plenty of help with math or any other subject here. As someone mentioned though, it is a huge school (50,000 students), so as an undergraduate student it would be easy to get lost in the crowd, and not really get a lot of attention from professors. If that is important to you, pick a smaller school with smaller class sizes.

Academically, UT is a solid school. Top-rate programs in business, law, science, engineering, and liberal arts. Especially at the graduate level.
